A Collection Of Historical Connections Between Cultures And Civilisations

This gallery celebrates the collection of images of the community and people that have lived on Penang Hill from the 1950s to today. Each photograph tells timeless stories about the residents of Penang Hill and the community that embodies the true spirit of Malaysia’s diverse and multi-racial culture. Unity has always been our nation’s greatest strength and this is evident on Penang Hill where the community has experienced struggles and triumphs together as one.

A very significant wall in this gallery is our tribute to Edgecliff Bungalow’s Scottish architect – J.C. Miller. He built Edgecliff in 1937 and was involved in other buildings in Penang most notably The Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China in Beach Street and York House in today’s Medan York. On Penang Hill, he designed three houses: Treetops (1929); Nook (1929, now in ruins); and his own home (Edgecliff Bungalow). Miller left Penang in 1939 as WWII threatened and did not return.

Finally and as a befitting conclusion, we extend our thanks and acknowledgement to the people who have worked tirelessly on Penang Hill Gallery@Edgecliff in our Contribution Wall. Without their contribution and support, none of this would have been possible.

Koleksi Perhubungan Bersejarah Antara Budaya Dan Tamadun
